Navigating My Sea, 2021

Navigating My Sea worked alongside women from Her Centre and Solace- two centres that support women to move away from abuse and provide a service to meet the needs of survivors. Based online through Royal Museums Greenwich, the group used techniques of drawing, writing and batik to explore the past, present and future through the objects in their homes. A series of posters and online publication were made in collaboration with Kat, Anna, Claudia, Merhawit, Erone, Elena, Vicki, Cara, Lou and Chrystal  and are now on display in the safe houses of the participants as well as in the partner centres.

Navigating My Sea II, 2024

Navigating My Sea II worked alongside women from Her Centre, Solace and the Aaina Centre- responding to the new tapestry commission, Feeling Blue, by Albert Whittle. Based online through Royal Museums Greenwich, across a period of two months, the group worked together, dying yarn from which they learnt to weave. Alongside their weaves they used creative writing to explore how colour connects to feeling. The resulting weaves and poems were given to Stuti Bansal who responded to the work through animation. The final publication and film made in collaboration with Aurelijia, Laura, Maria,  Nikeshia, Padma and Zarida,  was then screened and celebrated at the Queen’s House.

Making in Isolation (Together)

Making In Isolation, Together, worked remotely with a group of people over the age of 65 who met weekly over conference call to discuss the topics Confinement, Solidarity and Survival. Alongside these discussions, material packs were posted out to each individual to enable the group to learn new skills in batik. Work was made and posted along, to ensure everyone has the opportunity to collaborate even if it wasn’t possible to meet in real life. The three collaborative batik works made with with Sara Apoolingum, Ranjini Arasasingham, Angela Byer, Maggie Freake, Melvyn Freake, Shirley Ann Giles, Kiran Kansagra, Khim Lee, Odun Ogundipe, Denise Ross and Rita Vora are available to see on permanent display at Age Uk, Redbridge and the Allan Burgess Centre in Wansted.
